state advocacy - achievement gains

Georgia - GeorgiaStandards.org (GSO)
• Nearly 79 percent of schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) even though the state’s new, more rigorous curriculum was implemented this past school year.
• In 2006, nearly 38,000 Georgia public school students took AP classes, an increase of over 6,000 students from 2005.
• The AP report also shows that more Georgia students are receiving a score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP exams and qualifying for college credit.

Iowa - After providing teachers with sustainable professional development and technology-based curriculum interventions, student scores increased by 14 percentage points in eighth grade math, 16 points in fourth grade math, and 13 points in fourth grade reading, when compared with control groups.

Maine – eMINTS – Students in classrooms that participated in the eMINTS program, which provides high levels of technology for students and teachers, scored 10-20 percentage points higher than students in control classrooms

Missouri – eMINTS - Program evaluation results consistently verify that elementary students in eMINTS classrooms outperform their non-eMINTS peers on all content areas tested: communication arts, mathematics, science and social studies. eMINTS program evaluation reports are available at: http://www.emints.org/evaluation/reports/

Utah – eMINTS
– Student performance in four Utah districts that replicated eMINTS showed that eMINTS classroom students outperform non-eMINTS classroom students. Informal studies of student attendance have shown that students in eMINTS classrooms have higher rates of attendance than their non-eMINTS peers.

West Virginia – Technology Model Schools Program
– This program showed a dramatic increase in the use of technology by students and teachers, and achievement gains in math and reading. In math, Title I-eligible students in the program outperformed other students not in the program.
